Caroline Mitchell - Counsellor, Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, Hypnotherapist
My approach to counselling
The approach I use is integrative, where I work with whatever counselling methods are most effective for you as an individual. Whatever direction our work takes, you can be assured that a non-judgemental, empathic and honest environment will help you to work through your problems effectively. I often use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques (in which you become more aware of how your current thought patterns influence your feelings and behaviours, and we explore more beneficial ways of thinking and acting), or hypnotherapy if appropriate.
On completion of my degree in 1990, I worked for a large, multi-national corporation in a variety of roles until retraining as a counsellor in 2003. I understand the stresses individuals can face when trying to balance hectic work and home commitments. Being unhappy in the workplace can have a devastating effect on your life, and understanding more about how you relate to different people and learning assertiveness skills can make all the difference.
I have previously worked with clients from all ages and backgrounds for a counselling agency attached to GP surgeries in the south Manchester area, and also in the voluntary sector. Issues I have successfully worked through with my clients include anxiety, depression, bereavement, anger, work-related issues, abuse (ongoing or from many years ago), substance/drug misuse, confidence problems, phobias and post-traumatic stress disorder. I'm particularly interested in working with anger and anxiety, and how these very common issues can take over your life if they are not addressed.
