Jill Southern
I qualified from the Northern College of Chiropody in 1989 and worked for a short time in the private sector and the NHS. In 1990 I joined ‘Scholl’ as a Chiropodist in their Manchester store and progressed to management level within 12 months. My responsibilities at that time involved the introduction of more specialised Podiatry services into the stores, i.e. A bespoke biomechanics and orthotics service and nail surgery.
In 1993, I became the Principal of the ‘Scholl Chiropody Training School’ in Sheffield, training chiropodists for the private sector. I remained there till 1996, after which I moved to Southport to open and run Scholl’s fourth training centre. By 2001, I was responsible for two training schools and staff recruitment for all ‘Scholl’ stores. The job took me away from home for long periods of time, and when I became pregnant in 2001 I felt it was time to slow down.
I left ‘Scholl’ at the beginning of 2002 and took a position as clinical manager at a very busy private practise in Heswall, Wirral. I share my working week between Heswall and St Georges Multi-Therapy Centre in Bolton, providing a comprehensive Podiatry service, specialising in Nail Surgery. I currently live in Chorley with my 6 year old son – Harry.
