"Naturopathic Medicine is the field of health care which works with the body's own efforts to allow optimum expression of physiological, mental/emotional, and physical health, given the individual’s genetic make up and environment"
Naturopathy is an approach to health care that promotes and maintains health. It recognises that there are laws governing human function and our natural environment. Naturopathic medicine is the application of these laws in a clinical setting to maintain, improve or establish health in patients.
The defining elements of Naturopathy are:
- It always seeks to work with the body’s own self-correcting mechanisms, or efforts to maintain balance.
- It always attempts to address biochemical, emotional, structural.
- It regards education of the patient as highly as treatment of the patient.
- It always seeks to address lifestyle factors that are contributing to the problem and re-educate the patient into a lifestyle more conducive to health.
