What is Reiki?
Reiki is a holistic system for balancing, healing, and harmonising all aspects of a person. It will complement and increase the effectiveness of the body’s own healing process. Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy (Rei = universal, Ki = life energy), it is the vital life energy which flows through all living things and which can be activated for the purpose of healing.
How does it work?
When our Ki energy is high and free flowing around our body we feel healthy, strong, fit and full of energy. We also feel confident, ready to enjoy life and take on challenges and are much less likely to become ill. If our Ki energy is low or blocked in its flow we feel weak, tired, listless and lethargic and are much more vulnerable to illness or ‘dis-ease’.
The Reiki Therapist channels this life force energy through their hands to the patient’s body, activating the body’s natural ability to heal itself. It works wherever it is needed most, releasing blocked energies, cleansing the body of toxins, and creating a state of balance.
Reiki is a therapy in which healing is promoted through the therapist gently laying their hands lightly on the body in a series of positions – it is not a massage. You lie on a massage table and you remain fully clothed throughout, but may be asked to remove your shoes.
Reiki will complement and increase the effectiveness of the body’s own healing process. It is completely safe and natural and when used in healing it acts holistically affecting the energies which comprise the human body.
What will you experience?
You will generally feel a pleasant sensation of warmth or gentle tingling in the area being touched. As the energy comes into balance, stress and tension are released and there is a deep sense of relaxation and a feeling of well-being.
